The best kitchen cabinet distributor for an Apopka kitchen is the one whose cabinets are well built, available in the sizes and finishes you need, delivered on a schedule that fits your project, and backed by clear answers about who measures, who installs and who fixes problems. Around Apopka and northwest Orange County you will find several types of sellers: cabinet warehouses and distributors, kitchen showrooms and dealers, big-box home centers, online ready-to-assemble sellers, custom cabinet shops and remodelers who supply and install. Below is how each works, how to judge construction quality, what to ask, and what to watch for.

Types of cabinet sellers near Apopka

Cabinet warehouses and distributors

Distributors buy from manufacturers and sell to contractors and homeowners, often with assembled stock cabinets on the shelf. Strengths: prices aimed at the trade, fast availability on stock lines, and a range of styles you can see in person. Limitations: most do not install, and design help varies from a basic layout to full drawings.

Kitchen showrooms and cabinet dealers

Dealers sell specific semi-custom and custom lines, usually with a designer on staff. You get more choice in sizes, finishes and accessories, and detailed drawings. Lead times are longer because the cabinets are made to order.

Big-box home centers

Stock cabinets in store, special-order semi-custom lines, and often a measuring and installation service through subcontractors. Convenient and easy to compare, though design attention and installer quality vary by project.

Online and ready-to-assemble sellers

Flat-packed cabinets shipped to your door. Often the lowest price per box, and quality ranges widely. You or your installer assemble them, which takes time and care.

Custom cabinet shops

Local shops build cabinets to your room. Best for odd dimensions, built-ins and furniture-style details. Longest lead time and usually the highest cost.

Remodelers who supply and install

A remodeling contractor orders the cabinets, coordinates the countertops, plumbing and electrical, installs everything and takes responsibility for the finished kitchen. You pay for the coordination, but you get one point of contact and one written scope. Our kitchen cabinets service works this way.

How to judge cabinet construction

Open the drawers and look inside the box. Quality shows in the parts you do not see in a photo.

Cabinet boxes

  • Plywood sides hold screws well and resist moisture better than particleboard, which matters in Florida humidity and especially at the sink base.
  • Particleboard and MDF boxes are common in budget lines. They are fine in dry areas if well finished, but they swell if they get wet.
  • Side thickness of about 1/2 in. or more and a solid back panel make a more rigid box.
  • Shelves should be at least 5/8 in. thick or supported in the middle so they do not sag.

Face frames and doors

  • Framed cabinets should have a solid wood face frame, joined tightly at the corners.
  • Frameless cabinets rely on thicker box sides and well-banded edges.
  • Painted doors with an MDF center panel move less with humidity than solid wood panels, which helps prevent hairline cracks at the joints.

Drawers

  • Drawer boxes with dovetail or doweled joints last longer than stapled ones.
  • Slides should be full-extension and soft-close, with a weight rating fit for pots and dishes.
  • Bottoms should be set into a groove, not just stapled to the bottom edge.

Hinges and finish

  • Concealed, adjustable, soft-close hinges keep doors aligned.
  • A factory-applied finish is usually more durable than a site-applied one.
  • Formaldehyde compliance. Composite wood products sold in the US must meet federal emission standards; the EPA’s formaldehyde page explains the rule. Ask the seller to confirm compliance.

Questions to ask any cabinet distributor

  1. Is this line stock, semi-custom or custom, and what is the current lead time?
  2. What are the boxes, shelves and drawer boxes made of?
  3. Are hinges and slides soft-close and full-extension as standard, or upgrades?
  4. Who measures the kitchen, and who is responsible if a cabinet does not fit?
  5. Is delivery included, and is it curbside or inside the home?
  6. How are damaged or wrong cabinets handled, and how long do replacements take?
  7. Can I see a full set of drawings with every cabinet size and filler before ordering?
  8. Do you install, or do you work with installers? Are they licensed and insured?
  9. What is the deposit, and when is the balance due?
  10. Is the manufacturer’s warranty in writing, and what does it cover?

The buying process, step by step

  1. Measure carefully or have the kitchen professionally measured. Note windows, doors, plumbing and outlets.
  2. Get a drawing listing every cabinet, filler, panel and molding by size.
  3. Choose door style, finish and accessories, and confirm the appliance sizes they must fit.
  4. Compare quotes line by line: same cabinet list, same grade, same accessories.
  5. Confirm delivery and storage. Cabinets should be stored indoors in a dry space, not a hot garage in an Apopka summer.
  6. Inspect on delivery. Open every box and check for damage and missing parts before the installer starts.

Red flags

  • No written drawing or cabinet list before payment.
  • A large deposit with no clear delivery date. Florida Statutes 489.126 requires a contractor who takes more than 10 percent of the contract price as a deposit to apply for permits within 30 days and begin work within 90 days of the permit, unless the contract provides otherwise as the statute allows. That covers contractors, not every product seller, so read the terms.
  • Pressure to buy the same day.
  • Vague answers about box material.
  • Installers with no license or insurance information. You can verify a contractor license at myfloridalicense.com.

Remodeling a kitchen in Apopka

Apopka has a mix of older homes and newer subdivisions, many of them in HOA communities. Cabinet replacement in the same spot usually does not need a building permit, but plumbing changes, new circuits and wall removal do. Inside city limits that is the City of Apopka building department; in unincorporated areas it is Orange County. Many HOAs want to know about exterior work such as a new range hood vent, so ask before you plan one.

If you want one company to handle the cabinets, counters, plumbing and installation, see what we do in Apopka and our kitchen remodeling service.

FAQ

Common questions

Do not see your question? Call us or send the estimate form and we will answer it on the phone.

What does a kitchen cabinet distributor do?

A kitchen cabinet distributor buys cabinets from manufacturers and sells them to contractors, builders and homeowners, often from a warehouse with assembled stock on hand. Many also offer design help and delivery. Most do not install, so you either hire an installer or buy through a remodeler who handles both.

Is it cheaper to buy cabinets from a warehouse or distributor?

It can be, especially for stock and semi-custom lines bought in quantity, because a distributor's prices are often aimed at contractors. The cabinets are only part of the cost, though. Add delivery, installation, countertops and any plumbing or electrical work before comparing to a remodeler's installed price.

What should I look for in quality kitchen cabinets?

Look for plywood or high-quality boxes, a solid wood face frame if the cabinets are framed, dovetail or doweled drawer boxes, full-extension soft-close slides, adjustable concealed hinges and a factory-applied finish. Open a sample drawer and door in the showroom and check the inside of the box as well as the front.

How long does it take to get kitchen cabinets?

Assembled stock cabinets held in a warehouse can be available quickly, while semi-custom and custom lines are made to order and take longer. For a full kitchen remodel, design, selections and ordering typically take 3 to 8 weeks, and cabinet lead time is usually what sets that timeline.

Do Apopka homeowners need a permit to replace kitchen cabinets?

Replacing cabinets in the same location usually does not require a building permit, but moving plumbing, adding circuits or removing walls does. Homes inside Apopka city limits go through the City of Apopka, while unincorporated areas go through Orange County. Confirm with the building department before you start.
